1 teaspoon (5ml) dry active yeast
1 teaspoon (5ml) sugar
1 egg
200g (7 oz) plain flour
5 cloves of garlic, peeled and crushed
1/4 teaspoon (1ml) salt
1/2 teaspoon (2.5ml) baking powder
1 tablespoon (15ml) vegetable oil
2 tablespoons (30ml) natural yogurt
2 tablespoons (30ml) milk
Method
Mix the yeast and 1 tablespoon (15ml) of warm water in a small clean bowl
Add the sugar and mix until the sugar is dissolved
Leave the bowl in a warm place for 15 minutes until the mixture is covered in froth
Beat the egg
Put the flour in a large bowl and add the egg, garlic, salt and baking powder
Mix well
Stir in the vegetable oil, yogurt, milk and yeast mixture
Mix well
Knead the dough for about 10 minutes until you have a smooth, soft dough
Cover the bowl with a damp cloth and leave in a warm place for 3 hours
Split the dough into 4 equal pieces
Roll the dough until it is about 1/2 cm (1/4 inch) thick - don't make the dough too thin

Brush the dough lightly on each side with vegetable oil and bake in the centre of the oven for up to 15 minutes - remove the cooked naans when they are a light golden colour
Serve hot
