A spinach and Lentil Curry Recipe Test

Time for another weekend curry recipe test from the great range of curry recipes on the Curry Focus website. I love weekends, especially if there is a new curry recipe to try. I was in a vegetarian mood and quickly found a Spinach and Lentil Curry recipe among the vegetarian curry recipes. So this was a dal recipe – yummy.

I already had everything that I needed for the curry except for the spinach so this was going to be another cheap meal (dal is usually cheap).

Making the Spinach and Lentil Curry

This recipe uses lentils so they needed to be washed/rinsed with cold water rather than be soaked. We get the occasional email asking about soaking lentils. They don’t need to be soaked. But you can soak them if you want in order to speed up the actual cooking. There is probably a formula somewhere that tells you how long to soak lentils but I just follow the recipe and see how things turn out.

This is a pretty straightforward curry recipe and there were no dramas or tricky bits to mess up. The cooking only took about 30 minutes. The tasting team arrived half way during the cooking.

The curry had about the right consistency when it was cooked to the listed times so there was no need to cook any longer (or shorter).

Tasting and Rating the Spinach and Lentil Curry

I served up the Spinach and Lentil Curry on basmati rice to the ever-hungry tasting team. And it was lovely. Everything was cooked well and the curry tasted great. Somebody said that the lemon made a (good) difference and the curry received a taste score of 8.5 out of 10 with a spice/heat rating of “Mild to Medium”.

And this is a big curry, which is lucky for me because there was plenty of leftover curry for tomorrow night.

Make the Spinach and Lentil Curry Again?

Yes, definitely. This curry goes on to my curry hit list.
