A Pumpkin Curry Recipe Test
My flatmate arrived home one weekend with a big slice of pumpkin that his parents had given him. A quick look in the vegetarian curry recipes only found one pumpkin curry recipe and this had already been tested by the team (it was not a good pumpkin curry recipe and only got a taste score of 5.5 out of 10 with a spice/heat rating of “Mild”). But I had a feeling that there was a pumpkin curry recipe that had been emailed to Curry Focus about a year ago and which had not been added to the website yet. I looked through the emails and there it was. I looked at the recipe to see if it would produce a better curry than the first recipe and it looked like it would so I quickly added the pumpkin curry recipe to the website (making it pumpkin curry version 2). There was no way that I was going to waste a good piece of pumpkin.
The ingredients for this curry are very easy to find and most of them are probably always in a curry maker’s kitchen. All I had to buy for this curry were the coconut milk, curry leaves and fresh coriander (cilantro).
Making the Pumpkin Curry
Preparation is pretty minimal for this curry and the only hard part is peeling the skin from the pumpkin without cut off a finger. I managed to prepare the ingredients and still had 10 digits on my hands so all was well.
And like a lot of curry recipes on the Curry Focus website, this is a very easy curry to cook. A few simple steps and the curry was ready in less than 30 minutes. I waited until the curry tasting team arrived before starting to cook to make sure that they would be here before the curry was ready.
Tasting and Rating the Pumpkin Curry
I served the pumpkin curry on basmati rice and everyone eagerly got stuck into the curry. And it was great. The pumpkin was well cooked and the curry was delicious. There was obviously a good coconut taste to go with the coconut and the sloppy curry sauce was yummy. This was a far different pumpkin curry to the first one that I made and received an outstanding taste score of 9 out of 10 with a spice/heat rating of “Hot” (the curry was spicy hot but not too hot).
Make the Pumpkin Curry Again?
Of course I will make this curry again. This is a light curry that has plenty of taste. Easy to make and even easier to eat. Great.
