A Beef and Potato Curry Recipe Test

Following on from last week’s successful Kashmiri chicken curry recipe test, I decided to try out another meat curry. But which one? I looked at the untested beef curry recipes and found a great-looking beef and potato curry recipe.

My weekly shopping expedition found me buying the beef from my favourite butcher shop and some fresh coriander (cilantro) from my local greengrocer.

I already had everything else needed to make this curry.

All of the ingredients are very easy to find.

Making the Beef and Potato Curry

Like a lot of the Curry Focus curries, this is an easy curry to make. The ingredient preparation was pretty simple and I had the onion paste made in just a few minutes.

Then it was a matter of measuring and preparing the other ingredients.

In plenty of time, I browned the beef and set it aside.

I worked out that I could take a 15 minute break before needing to start the actual cooking of the curry.

And the cooking phase was very straightforward. Nothing went wrong and the curry was ready to eat, along with some basmati rice, almost exactly at the planned eating time.

Tasting and Rating the Beef and Potato Curry

The tasting team arrived on time and I was soon serving up the beef and potato curry with basmati rice.

This is where I made my one mistake. I forgot about the fresh coriander (cilantro) even though I had prepared it and it was sitting waiting to be used. I took the pics and then realised I had forgotten the coriander (cilantro). So I raced into the kitchen, grabbed the coriander (cilantro) and gave everyone some to eat with their curry. But I forgot to take the pics again. So the pic with this review is missing the fresh coriander (cilantro). Nobody’s perfect.

There was lots of lovely gravy with the curry. I did reduce it a bit at the end of the cooking process by turning up the heat but did not worry about reducing the liquid too much. Why? Because this is a big curry and there would be leftover curry for tomorrow so a bit of leftover gravy will help heat up the curry leftovers.

The curry itself was popular with the tasting team. The beef and potatoes were well cooked and the curry had a lovely coconut taste. The beef and potato curry received a taste score of 8 out of 10 with a spice/heat rating of “Medium”.

Make the Beef and Potato Curry Again?

Yes, I can see me making this curry again. But I would add an extra fresh chilli to give the curry a bit of bite.
