A Chickpea and Potato Curry Recipe Test

It is curry time again and time to be a bit healthy by having a vegetarian curry. It is Christmas Day on Monday and the curry team decided to test a curry recipe on Saturday evening, instead of the usual Sunday evening, seeing that most of us had places to be on Christmas Eve. Saturday morning found me browsing the untested vegetarian curry recipes and there was a Chickpea and Potato curry recipe that looked easy to make and, more importantly, would produce a tasty curry.

And this curry recipe test was going to be very economical. I already had all of the ingredients and did not need to buy anything for the meal when I was doing my regular Saturday shop. As it happens, none of the ingredients are hard to find anyway – even a corner shop would have everything that is needed for this curry.

Making the Chickpea and Potato Curry

The preparation for this curry is minimal. All I had to do was prepare the onion, potatoes and ginger before measuring out the spices and opening the tins (cans).

And making the curry was easy peasy. I just followed the recipe steps and soon the final cooking phase (to thicken the curry sauce) was underway. The tasting team arrived at this stage which was unusually close to the eating time. Never mind, the curry and tasters were ready on time.

Tasting and Rating the Chickpea and Potato Curry

I served up the chickpea and potato curry on basmati to the curry tasting team and it went quiet as the first mouthfuls of curry and rice were eaten. The curry was very popular. The sauce was nice and thick and all of the ingredients were well cooked. And the curry tasted great. It was a bit too mild for my taste but I seem to think that a lot of chickpea curries tend to be mild. The chickpea and potato curry received a taste score of 8 out of 10 with a spice/heat rating of “Mild”.

Make the Chickpea and Potato Curry Again?

This is a really tasty and easy curry to make. I am not sure if I will make this curry again but if I do, I will add a chilli to give the curry about of bite.
