A Simple Pork Sausage, Potato and Pea Curry Recipe Test
Another Saturday morning found me looking through the great range of curry recipes on the Curry Focus website to see which recipe I could test this week. I found a good recipe among the vegetarian curry recipes and added the ingredients that I needed to my shopping list and off I went to do the shopping.
But I could not find any decent quality vegetables that I needed. I tried 2 supermarkets and 2 greengrocers. They had the vegetables that I needed but they were pretty tired and did not look very appetising.
I did not panic and decided to come out shopping on Sunday morning to find the necessary ingredients.
But Sunday morning found me kicking the car which had managed to get a flat battery. At least, I thought it was the battery. I’ve had a flat battery before and this looked identical to the previous time. Grrr. It might be an hour or so before the AA got to me so I had to do a bit of quick thinking about the evening’s curry. I had promised to help a friend move some furniture in the afternoon so time for shopping was going to be very tight.
What to do? Well, I looked in the freezer and found some pork sausages. Hum. I fired up the computer, went onto the Curry Focus website and put the words “pork sausage” into the search box. At the top of the results list was a simple pork sausage, potato and pea curry recipe. I looked at the recipe and, sure enough, this was a simple recipe.
So I left the pork sausages out to defrost while I waited for the car to be fixed and then headed out to do some furniture moving.
Making the Simple Pork Sausage, Potato and Pea Curry
I got home after lugging some furniture around and it was 2.5 hours before the planned dinner eating time. Perfect. I needed to precook some ingredients before the actual curry cooking process started.
I grabbed the sausages, did some poking with a fork and put them under the grill (broiler) on a low to medium heat. While the sausages were cooking, I peeled the potatoes and parboiled them. I did remember to keep turning the sausages so that they would not burn. The sausages took about 20 minutes to cook and I left them to cool alongside the parboiled potatoes and went to reward myself with a beer after the strenuous afternoon’s work.
The cooking time for this curry is only 30 minutes and I prepared all of the ingredients, including slicing up the sausages, before I needed to start the real cooking.
And just like the recipe title says, this is a simple curry recipe. There are no complicated steps and nothing went wrong. And the liquid reduced nicely to give me a dry curry for dinner.
Tasting and Rating the Simple Pork Sausage, Potato and Pea Curry
The tasting team arrived, as usual, in plenty of time for the evening meal and settled down with some beers while watching me get everything ready.
I served up the simple pork sausage, potato and pea curry with basmati rice and the team eagerly tucked in to the colourful meal.
Everything was well cooked and, as I said before, this was a dry curry. The curry looked rough and ready, as I suppose any sausage curry would look, but it tasted great. And who couldn’t like a curry that had sausages, potatoes and peas in it? And the team loved the curry as well and gave it a taste score of 8 out of 10 with a spice/heat rating of “Medium to Hot”.
This is a big curry and will give me at least another couple of meals.
