Hi, Ray here again.
I’ve had some really good paneer curries lately and lots of you like paneer dishes as well. So I decided to try another paneer recipe and looked in the list of paneer recipes to see what I could find.
And staring in my face was a butter paneer recipe that looked like it would produce yummy food. I must admit I was almost put off making this curry because the ingredients include butter, paneer and cream – I usually avoid these high-calorie ingredients but decided that I would make the curry despite this.
Saturday morning saw me wandering around my favourite local Indian supermarket to buy the paneer and take in all of the gorgeous aromas of the spices that are on sale.
Sunday afternoon found me in the kitchen making the onion paste and frying the paneer. Once this was done I kicked back for a while. The remaining steps in the cooking process would take around 25 minutes and I timed the starting of these steps so that everything would be ready at the scheduled eating time.
This is a pretty straightforward recipe to follow. There are no complicated, or difficult, steps needed to make this curry.
The tasting crew arrived in plenty of time and milled around the kitchen getting in the way. Luckily the Butter Paneer curry was soon ready and I served it up on the usual bed of basmati rice.
And how was the butter paneer? Well, it was just great. It had a stunning taste. You could taste the richness of the food as soon as you put it into your mouth. The sauce was smooth, creamy and rich and the combination of spices made the paneer taste wonderful. The chopped coriander (cilantro) added a little bit more to the flavour. This is a great curry and it received a taste score of 9 out of 10 with a spice/heat rating of “Hot”.
The one thing to note is that there are a lot of calories in this dish – almost 1,000 calories for the butter paneer alone. A couple of Indian friends have told me that this is a delicious curry but that they would only have it on special occasions because of the richness. So this is not exactly a dish that you can eat every day unless you’re eating small portions. But it is a delightful curry so you need to balance satisfying your taste buds and your calorie intake. I will definitely be making butter paneer again.
