Hi, Ray here again.
The weekend is here again and so it is time to try out one of the great range of Curry Focus curry recipes.
I browsed through the recipes that had not been reviewed (not all of them – there are so many) and decided to try the Chicken Pilau Curry recipe. You can find this recipe amongst the pilau curry recipes.
I pretty much had most of the ingredients and only needed to pick up a chicken breast and some fresh coriander (cilantro).
All in all, this is a very easy recipe to follow and everything gets cooked in around 40 minutes.
I washed the basmati and put it in to soak about 30 minutes before the dinner guests normally arrived.
I prepared the other ingredients and everything was ready by the time the dinner guests made their appearance.
And so on to the cooking. And there was nothing much to report here really. It was just a matter of putting the ingredients into the saucepan in the correct sequence.
The only thing I find nerve wracking about cooking pilau, or biryani, curries is letting the food cook undisturbed without lifting the saucepan lid. A long time ago I managed to burn the rice so must have had the heat up too high. But this time everything came out perfectly.
I served up the Chicken Pilau Curry and we all got stuck in to the curry.
And how was it? The chicken, potato and rice were all well-cooked so that was a good start. The recipe originally claimed that it would serve 4 people but this would easily feed 6 – 2 cups of cooked rice is an awful lot of rice for 4 people (I changed the recipe to reflect the true quantity). On the other hand, 300g (10 oz) of chicken breast is not much meat for the dish. Maybe 600g (1 lb 5 oz) would be a better quantity for this recipe – people complained they were sometimes just eating rice. Overall, most people liked the chicken pilau curry but did not rave about it. The curry only received an average taste score of 6.5 out of 10 with a spice/heat rating of “Medium to Hot”
So we found this to be a bit of a disappointing recipe. Maybe more chicken would have helped. We would like to get your opinion if you try the recipe for yourself.
