The 2011 Scottish Curry Awards were held on 23rd May in the Thistle Hotel, Glasgow.
The Awards of the Scottish Curry industry were greeted by a well-fed audience.
For the third year in a row, the Best Supermarket Curry Award was won by Asda.
For the second year in a row, the Team of the Year Award was won by Ashoka Johnstone (in Johnstone).
And the Banana Leaf (in Glasgow) won the Takeaway of the Year Award for the second year in a row.
The first time winners were Ajmal Mushtaq from Mushtaq’s Restaurant who won the Chef of the Yerar Award, Tam Cowan who won the Curry Lover of the Year Award, Mrs Unis (from Edinburgh) who won the Lifetime Achievement Award and Monir Mohammed who won the Curry King of the Year Award.
And now to reveal the best restaurants.
There were four regional winners – Spice Tandoori of Fort William was the North West Award winner, Balbir’s of Glasgow was the South West Award winner, Bombay Joe’s of Dundee was the North East Award winner and Suruchi of Edinburgh was the South East Award winner.
The overall winner of the Restaurant of the Year Award was Balbir’s of Glasgow.
The charity to benefit from this year’s event was the Scottish Spina Bifida Association.
