Hi, Ray here again.
The weekend has rolled around again so it is time for another curry from the great range of Curry Focus curry recipes.
There was only going to be two of us for dinner this weekend so I looked for a recipe that said that it served 2. Wendy likes vegetarian food so I checked out the range of vegetarian curry recipies and picked the Kolhapuri Vegetarian Curry for the Sunday curry meal.
I’m not sure what a Kohlapuri curry really is. I had previously done a search on Google and found that Kolhapur was in the state of Maharashtra, as is Mumbai. But I couldn’t find any clues as to what a Kolhapuri curry style was (if you know then maybe you could enlighten me).
I thought that I’d picked up everything that I needed in the Saturday shop but discovered that I’d forgotten to get a cauliflower. Luckily I had some green beans in the fridge so I did a quick bit of substitution.
This is a bit of a long winded curry to make. There are lots of different steps but they are all pretty easy so it didn’t tax me too much to make the curry.
There were no major disasters or emergencies during the cooking and we settled down to eat the Kolhapuri Vegetarian Curry on basmati rice.
All of the vegetables were well cooked and tasted very nice. And the spice/heat level was rated as “Medium” even though there were 2 whole chillies and some chilli powder in the curry. But the curry lacked something. It wasn’t bland but it was very interesting either. So it was a bit of a disappointment and only received a taste score of 6.5 out of 10. The curry definitely had more than 2 servings so I’ve increased the number of serves on the curry recipe page. I popped the extra two portions into the freezer and will try them out for lunch in a couple of weeks to see if they get any better.
But if you do like vegetarian curries you might like this one better than we did. Why not try the recipe for yourself?
