Hi, Ray here again.
It’s time to try another of the great vegetarian recipes from the Curry Focus website. I am partial to a biryani so I thought that the Chickpeas and Rice recipe would be a good recipe to try.
As with most chickpea curry recipes, the chickpeas had to be soaked so the only thing to remember is to put them in to soak in plenty of time.
From there onwards, this is a really easy recipe to follow.
All you have to do is fry up the onions and spices, then cook the chickpeas and finally add the rice (and lemon juice) and cook the rice with the absorption method.
I usually have problems with cooking rice with the absorption method (where you cook the rice in water in a covered saucepan without removing the lid until all of the water has been absorbed by the rice) but this time the rice was cooked to perfection.
The Chickpeas and Rice curry was served up to the eager diners for their comments.
And the comments came but they weren’t very flattering. This is a very yellow dish and is a bit bland (maybe some coriander and more chilli would have added more flavour and spice). As it was, the best that could be said was that it was basically a plate of rice.
The Chickpeas and Rice curry had a mild spice rating and received a disappointing 6 out of 10 for flavour.
This would be an ideal curry if you like a really mild curry but I don’t think that I’ll be trying it again.
